Your Dream Come True Your Dream Come True Your Dream Come True

Within three weeks of completing my degree, I was offered an adjunct position teaching a
Career and Life Planning class at Cañada College in Redwood City, California. Obviously, a
part time position was not going to provide the necessary income to pull me out of the cost
of my education. It was necessary to find other part time positions, and to create a rigid
budget. My plan was to be debt free within five years. After eleven years of studying,
working, and keeping tight control of money, my goal was met. I went one month beyond my
five years because I decided I had earned a cruise to Alaska.
Realizing that many other students needed a way to pay for their education, I created a
scholarship class in 1998. You can imagine my amazement when the first two classes (about
25 students) won over $100,000 in scholarships. After four years of teaching the class and
giving workshops through community education and at Puente Conferences, the time
seemed right to make the process available to other colleges.
The system does work, and students who have continued the research process are indeed
being awarded the necessary money for college. It is crucial to take the time to set up a
portfolio and to be diligent about organization and timing. Keep up your grade point
average, become involved in community service, and follow directions to a tee -- you, too,
will reap the reward of finding money for college.
