- Treat the scholarship search like a job. Set aside several hours a
week for doing research.
- Set up a portfolio with a scholarship organizer sheet, calendars, and
alphabet binder dividers to keep your materials organized.
- Apply for FAFSA even if you don’t feel you qualify.
- Start writing your personal statement.
- Request letters of recommendation—you’ll need at least three.
- Have several copies of official transcripts available.
- Find your personal documents like driver’s license, social security
card, and birth certificate or alien registration card. Make copies and
keep in a safe place.
- Create a scholarship résumé.
- Complete a personal data form.
- Make a copy of every scholarship application before mailing.
- Time management and organization are critical for meeting deadlines.
- Complete a status sheet and attach to the copy of your application.
